Zechariah 4)
1 And the angel (see 1:9) that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep. (Woke me up so I could see where I was going.)
2 And said to me, "What do you see?" (the 5th vision) And I said, "I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold (a single seven-branched lampstand, as in the Tabernacle and in the 2nd Temple [1 Macc. 1:21; 4:49; as seen in the Arch of Titus, in Rome]. Ref. Ex. 25:31; not to Solomon's Temple, in which there were 10 separate lampstands [1 Kings 7:49. Cp. Jer. 52:19), with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon (ref. Ex. 25:37), and seven pipes to the seven lamps (this looks forward to the future, as described in Rev. 11:3-12), which are upon the top thereof:" (God's Elect.)
3 And two olive trees (el-ah'-yah. God and the Fathers name in the word. olive oil = the truth) by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof. (Cp. 10 virgins.)
4 So I answered and spoke to the angel that talked with me, saying," What are these, my lord?" (It doesn't hurt to ask for clarity.)
5 Then the angel that talked with me answered and said to me, "Know you not what these be?" And I said, "No, my lord."
6 Then he answered and spoke to me, saying, "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel (= born in babel [confusion], but is coming out), saying, "Not by might [of man], and not by power [of flesh], but by My spirit (i.e. as in the lampstand the oil flowed silently, without the help from man. You are sealed with it), says the LORD of hosts.
7 Who are you, O great mountain? (symbolic of nation - One Word System) [that stands in the way of] Zerubbabel?] you shall become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone (capstone the builders rejected - Christ) thereof with shoutings, crying, 'Grace, grace to it.' "
8 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
9 The hands of Zerubbabel (here is the explanation of the vision) have laid the foundation of this house (the many membered body); his hands shall also finish it; and you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent me to you.
10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet (God's natural gravity will give you a straight line, a plumb-bob, a signet on the end of it, the stone of separation) in the hand of Zerubbabel these seven [lamps which you see]; these are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth." (God's Elect scattered across the earth)
11 Then answered I, and said to him, "What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof?" (Rev. 11. Servant of God only)
12 And I answered again, and said to him, "What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty out of themselves [and fill] the golden bowls (the Holy Spirit)?"
13 And he answered me and said, "Know you not what these be?" And I said, "No, my lord."
14 Then said he, "These are the two anointed ones (the sons two of oil; looking forward again to the future, to the "two witnesses" of Rev. 11:3-13. Moses and Elijah most probably), that stand by the LORD of the whole earth. (See also Rev 9:4,5)
