Psalm 97)

1 The LORD has taken a kingdom;

Let the earth rejoice;
Let the multitude of coasts (or coast lands beyond Palestine. Put for the Gentile world) be glad thereof.

2 Clouds and darkness are round about Him:

Righteousness

And judgment
Are the foundation of His throne.
3 A fire goes before Him,
And burns up His adversaries round about.
4 His lightnings enlightened the habitable world:
The earth saw, and trembled.
5 The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD,
At the presence of the Lord (Heb. Adon. Specially connected with His rule in the earth) of the whole earth.

6 The heavens (put for Him who dwells there) declare His righteousness,
And all the peoples see His glory.
7 Confounded be all they that serve an image, (whether graven or molten)
That boast themselves of nothings:
Worship Him, all you judges (or rulers. See Ex. 22:9).

8 Zion heard, and was glad;
And the daughter cities of Judah rejoiced
Because of Your judgments, O LORD.
9 For You, LORD, are Most High (Elyon) above all the earth:
You are exalted far above all gods.
10 You that love the LORD, hate evil:
He preserves the souls of His gracious ones;
He delivers them out of the hand of the lawless.

11 Light is sown for a righteous one,
And gladness for the upright in heart.
12 Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous;
  And give thanks at the memorial of His holiness.
