91)

(If Moses were the author [this Psalm following his], then all the Scriptures quoted in Matt. 4 were from his writings. Note the refs. to Deut. 32. 1-14. It is not David's, for we have no more right to insert the name of "David" where none is written, than to take it out when it is.) 1 He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High (Elyon)
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty (Shaddai).

2 I will say (Messiah speaks) of the LORD (Yahaveh), He is my refuge and my fortress:
My God (Elohim); in Him will I confide.

3 Surely he shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler,
And from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings shall you flee for refuge:
His truth shall be your shield and coat of mail.
5 You shall not be afraid for the terror by night;
Nor for the arrow that flies by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness;
Nor for the destruction that wastes at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at your side,
And ten thousand at you right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
8 Only with your eyes shall you behold
And see the reward of the lawless.

9 For you, o Lord, are my refuge,

The Most High, [you have made] your habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall you,
Neither shall any plague come near your tent.
11 For He shall give (see Matt. 4:6. Luke 4:10) His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways.
(These words were omitted by Satan, the Scripture being misquoted and misapplied. The words 'at any time" are added in Matt. 4:6. Verse 13 is also omitted, because it refers to Satan's own head being crushed [Gen. 3;15].)
12 They shall bear you (cp. 94:19) up on their hands,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.

13 You shall tread upon the lion and adder (or asp. Satan and his army - Kenites):
The young lion and the dragon (2 names for Satan) shall you trample under feet. (In God, through Christ, you have power to defeat the enemy.)
14 Because he has set his love (indicates the deepest affection. Cp. Deut. 7:7;10:15. Isa. 38:17) upon Me, therefore will I deliver him:
I will set him on high, because he has known My name. (See 20;1.)
15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him:
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him, and glorify him.
16 With length of days will I satisfy him,
And show him My salvation.
