Psalm 56)
1 Be gracious (or favorable) to me, O God: for man thirst for my blood;
He fighting all the day oppresses me.
2 My watchers (or observers) would daily swallow me up:
For they be many that fight against me, O You Most High.
3 What time I am afraid,
I will confide in You. (When you are afraid, trust in God.)
4 In God I will praise His word, (Take it in.)
In God I have put my trust;
I will not fear what flesh (put for man) can do to me. (God will protect you. He is supernatural.)
5 All the day they wrest my words: (They twist everything I say.)
All their thoughts are against me for evil.
6 They gather themselves together, they hide themselves,
They mark my steps, when they wait for me. (Satan is at the bottom of this.)
7 Shall they escape by iniquity? (Are they going to get away with it?)
In Your anger cast down the peoples, O God.
8 You record my wanderings:
Put You my tears into Your bottle: (Tears of mourners were thus collected and buried with the dead. Hence often found in ancient tombs. See Rev. 8:3,4.)
Are they not in Your book?
9 In the day of my cry, then shall my enemies turn back:
This I know; that God is mine.
10 In God will I praise His word:
In the LORD will I praise His word.
11 In God have I confide: I will not be afraid
What a man can do to me.
12 Thy vows are upon me, O God:
I will render praises to You.
13 For You have plucked my soul from death:
Will not you deliver my feet from falling, (Can I continue working down here for you being a can-do type person? See Rev. 13:15)
That I may walk before God in resurrection life? (Thus the title. Cp. Ps. 16, and other Engraven Psalms. See also Job 33:30; and Ps. 116:8,9; where it is "land of the living".)
