Psalm 118)

1 O give thanks to the LORD; for He is good:
Because His loving-kindness (or grace) endures for ever.
2 Let Israel now say,
That His loving-kindness endures for ever.
3 Let the house of Aaron now say,
That His loving-kindness endures for ever.
4 Let them now that revere the LORD say,
That His loving-kindness endures for ever.

5 I called upon THE LORD (Yah) in distress:
He answered me with the deliverance of THE LORD.

6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear:
What can a man do to me?
(Quoted in Heb. 13:6.)
7 The LORD takes my part with them that help me:
Therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.

8 It is good to flee for refuge in the LORD
Than to put confidence in man.
9 It is good to flee for refuge in the LORD
Than to put confidence in princes.

10 All (put for a large number, many) nations compassed me about:
But in the name of the LORD will I destroy them.
11 They compassed me about; yes, they compassed me about:
But in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.
12 They compassed me about like bees: they are quenched as the fire of thorns:
For in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.

13 You (could this refers to the "man" of v.6?) have thrust sore at me that I might fall:
But the LORD helped me.

14 The LORD is my strength and song (put for the theme of the song),
And is become my salvation. (Cp. v.21. Isa. 15:2. Put for Him Who saves = my Savior.)

15 The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents (or dwellings) of the righteous:

The right hand of the LORD does valiantly.
16 The right hand of the LORD is exalted:
The right hand of the LORD does valiantly.

17 I shall not die, but live,
And declare the works of the LORD.
18 The LORD has chastened me sore:
But He has not given me over to death.

19 Open to me the gates of righteousness:
I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD:
20 This gate of the LORD,
Into which the righteous shall enter.

21 I will praise You: for You hast heard me,
And are become my salvation.

22 The stone (i.e. Messiah) which the builders refused
Is become the head stone of the corner. (See Gen. 49:24. A stone of stumbling, Isa. 8:14 [cp. Rom. 9:33. 1 Pet. 2:8]; a "tried stone", "precious", "sure", Isa. 28;16; the rejected stone [cp. Matt. 21:42. Mark 12:10,11. Luke 20:17. Acts 4:11. 1 Pet. 2:4]. The true foundation, Isa. 28:16 [c. Matt. 16:18. 1 Cor. 3:11. Eph. 2:20]. Here the present Dispensation comes in.)

23 This is the LORD's doing; (Messiah's exhalation is thus like the humiliation [109:27].)
It is marvelous in our eyes.

24 This is the day which the LORD has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.

25 Save now (Heb. "Hosanna" = Save, I pray. Not a particle of time, but of entreaty [as in Ecc. 12:1]. Repeated 4 times for emphasis: Lit. "I pray You, Yehovah; Save; I pray You; I pray You, O Yehovah"), I beseech You, O LORD:

O LORD, I beseech You, send now prosperity.

26 Blessed be he that comes in the name of the LORD: (See Matt. 21:9; 23:39. Mark 11:9. Luke 13:35; 19:38. John 12:13.)
We have blessed you out of the house of the LORD.
27 GOD (El) is the LORD, Which has shewed us light:
Bind (to join, so as to make ready [ Gen. 46:29. Ex. 14:6. 1 Kings 18:44. 2 Kings 9:21], or begin [1 Kings 20:14. 2 Chron. 13:3]) the [festival] sacrifice (or feast. See Ex. 23:18, and cp. Ex. 5:1; 12:14; 23:14. Lev. 23:39,41. Num.9:12. Deut. 16:15. Zech. 14:16,18,19.) with wreaths (or garlands, as in Ex. 28:14,22,24,25; 39:15,17,18), even until [it is consummated at] the horns of the altar. (Cp. Acts 14:13. There is nothing "to the alter" here.)
28 You are my GOD, and I will give thanks to You:
You are my God, I will exalt You.

29 O give thanks to the LORD; for He is good:
For His mercy endures for ever.
