Psalm 114)

1 When Israel went out of Egypt, (Cp. Ex. 13:3. Not Babylon. The Psalm was not post-exilic.)
The house of Jacob (see Gen. 32:28; 43:6; 46:27,28) from a people of strange language;
2 Judah became His sanctuary, (See Gen. 1:2)
And Israel His dominion.

3 The sea saw it (cp. Ex. 14:21), and fled:
Jordan was driven back. (Cp. Josh. 3:13.)

4 The mountains skipped like rams,
And the little hills like lambs.

5 What ailed you, O you sea, that you fled?
You Jordan, that you were driven back?

6 You mountains, that you skipped like rams;
and you little hills, like lambs?

7 Tremble, you earth, at the presence of the Lord (Adon),
At the presence of the GOD (Eloah) of Jacob;
8 Which changed the rock into a standing water,
The flint into a fountain of waters.

(To the chief Musician.)
