27:1-8. Altar of Burnt Offerings.

1491 B.C.

Exodus 27)

1 And you shall make an altar of acacia wood, five cubits long (8 1/2'), and five cubits broad; the altar shall be foursquare: and the height thereof shall be three cubits (3 1/2').
2 And you shall make the horns of it upon the four corners thereof: his horns shall be of the same: and you shalt overlay it with bronze.
3 And you shall make his pans to receive his ashes, and his shovels, and his basons, and his flesh-hooks, and his fire-pans: all the vessels thereof you shall make of bronze.
4 And you shall make for it a grate of network of bronze; and upon the net shall you make four brazen rings in the four corners thereof.
5 And you shall put it under the compass of the altar beneath, that the net may be even to the midst of the altar. (Probably the margin or place where the priest stood. The "place" of 2 Chron.30:16. A raised position from which the sacrificing priest is said to "come down"; Lev.9:22)
6 And you shall make staves for the altar, staves of acacia wood, and overlay them with bronze.
7 And the staves shall be put into the rings, and the staves shall be upon the two ribs of the altar, to bear it.
8 Hollow with boards shall you make it: as it was shown to you in the mount, so shall they make it.

9-19. The Hangings of the Courts.

9 And you shall make the court of the tabernacle (= dwelling place): for the south region southward there shall be hangings for the court of fine twined linen of an hundred cubits (175') long for one region:
10 And the twenty pillars thereof and their twenty sockets shall be of bronze (all other sockets of boards in "silver", 26:19, denoting redemption. The sockets of these pillars, the way of access, of bronze, denoting judgment in righteousness. Cp. the brazen Altar and Laver); the hooks (= pegs) of the pillars and their fillets (= connectors) shall be of silver.
11 And likewise for the north region in length there shall be hangings of an hundred (175') cubits long, and his twenty pillars and their twenty sockets of bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their connectors of silver.
12 And for the breadth of the court on the west quarter shall be hangings of fifty cubits (87 1/2'): their pillars ten, and their sockets ten.
13 And the breadth of the court on the east quarter eastward shall be fifty cubits (87 1/2').
14 The hangings of one shoulder of the gate shall be fifteen cubits (26 1/2'): their pillars three, and their sockets three.
15 And on the other shoulder shall be hangings fifteen cubits (26 1/2'): their pillars three, and their sockets three.
16 And for the gate of the court shall be an hanging of twenty cubits (35'), of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, wrought with needlework: and their pillars shall be four, and their sockets four.
17 All the pillars round about the court shall be connected with rods of silver; their pegs shall be of silver, and their sockets of brass.
18 The length of the court shall be an hundred cubits (175'), and the breadth fifty by fifty (87 1/2'), and the height five cubits (8 3/4') of fine twined linen, and their sockets of bronze.
19 All the vessels of the tabernacle in all the service thereof, and all the pins thereof, and all the pins of the court, shall be of bronze.
20 And you shall command the sons of Israel, that they bring you pure oil olive (this is without measure) beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always. (I.e. a perpetual light.)
21 In the tent of the congregation outside the screen, which is before the testimony (cp. 26:33), Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the Lord: it shall be a statute for ever (Why is this not being done today?) to their generations on the behalf of the sons of Israel.
