 From the Sihor (= dark), which is before Egypt (= land of the Copts), even to the borders of Ekron (= torn up by the roots; emigration) northward, which is counted to the Canaanite (Heb.= low, flat, humiliate, vanquish): five lords (Heb. seren, a prince; first occ. Used only of the Philistine princes) of the Philistines (= immigrants); the Gazathites (= the fortified, the strong), and the Ashdodites (= a stronghold), the Ashkalonites (= migration), and the Gittites (= belonging to a wine-press), and the Ekronites (see above); also the Avites (= ruins):
 On the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah (= a cave) that is beside the Zidonians (= fishing or fishery), to Aphek (= strength), to the borders of the Amorites (= dwellers on the summits, mountaineers):
 And the land of the Giblites (from Gebal = mountain), and all Lebanon, toward the sun-rising, from Baal-gad under mount Hermon to the pass of Hamath.
 All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon to Misrephoth-maim (= the flow of the waters), and all the Zidonians, them will I drive out from before the sons of Israel: only divide you it by lot to the Israelites for an inheritance, according as I have commanded you.
 Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance to the nine tribes, and the half tribe of Manasseh (the Sept. adds, "from the Jordan to the Great Sea westward you shall give it: the Great Sea shall be the boundary; and to the two tribes, and to the half tribe of Manasseh"),

 With whom the Reubenites and the Gadites have received their inheritance, which Moses gave them (cp. Num. 32:33. Deut. 3:13. Josh. 22:4), beyond Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of the Lord gave them;
 From Aroer (= ruins), that is upon the bank of the river Arnon (= roaring), and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain of Medeba (= water of rest) to Dibon (= wasting);
 And all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, to the border of the sons of Ammon;
 And Gilead (= rocky region), and the border of the Geshur and Maachathites (= oppression), and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan (= fruitful) to Salcah (= migration);
 All the kingdom of Og in Bashan (= giant; Literally long-necked), which reigned in Ashtaroth (= a star) and in Edrei (= stronghold), who remained of the remnant of the giants (Rephaim, see Gen. 6:2,4): for these did Moses smite, and cast them out.
 Nevertheless the sons of Israel expelled not the Geshurites, nor the Maachathites: but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day.(Because of disobedience to Father, this has caused Israel trouble even to this day)

 Only to the tribe of Levi he gave none inheritance; the sacrifices of the Lord God of Israel made by fire are their inheritance, according as He said to them.

 And Moses gave to the tribe of the sons of Reuben inheritance according to their families.
 And their border was from Aroer, that is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain as far as Medeba;
 Heshbon, and all her cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamoth-baal (= heights of lord), and Beth-baal-meon (= house of the lord of the house),
 And Jahazah (= trodden down), and Kedemoth (= beginnings), and Mephaath (= splendor, height),
 And Kirjathaim (= the two cities), and Sibmah (= Shebam = fragrance), and Zareth-shahar (= light of the dawn, because it catches the rays of the rising sun. Cp. Subscription to Ps.22) in the mount of the valley,

 And all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote with the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, which were dukes (= anointed leaders, called kings in Num. 31:8) of Sihon, dwelling in the country.
 Balaam (= not of the people, i.e foreigner. Cp. Num. 22:5; 24:3,15; 31:8. Deut. 23:4) also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the sons of Israel slay with the sword among them that were slain by them.
 And the border of the sons of Reuben was Jordan, and the border thereof. This was the inheritance of the sons of Reuben after their families, the cities and the villages thereof.
 And Moses gave inheritance to the tribe of Gad, even to the children of Gad according to their families.
 And their coast was Jazer (= Yahaveh helps), and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the sons of Ammon (= faithful), to Aroer that is before Rabbah;
 And from Heshbon to Ramath-mizpeh (= high place of the watch-tower), and Betonim (= hollows); and from Mahanaim (= two hosts, or two camps) to the border of Debir (= a sanctuary); (font color=red>This is the middle verse of this Book)
 And in the valley, Beth-aram (= house of the height), and Beth-nimrah (= house of leopards), and Succoth (= booths), and Zaphon (north), the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, Jordan and his border, even to the edge of the sea of Chinnereth on the other side Jordan eastward.
 This is the inheritance of the sons of Gad after their families, the cities, and their villages.
 And Moses gave inheritance to the half tribe of Manasseh: and this was the possession of the half tribe of the sons of Manasseh by their families.
 And all their coast was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the villages (He. Havoth Jair. Cp. Deut. 3:14. Heb. daughters) of Jair (= enlightener), which are in Bashan, threescore cities:
 And half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were pertaining to the children of Machir (= sold. Cp. Num. 32:39) the son of Manasseh, even to the one half of the children of Machir by their families.
 These are the countries which Moses did distribute for inheritance in the plains of Moab, on the other side Jordan, by Jericho, eastward.

 But to the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the Lord God of Israel He was their inheritance, according as He said to them.
