Isaiah 61)

1 The Spirit (Ruach. Quoted in Luke 4:18,19. The speaker is therefore he Messiah) of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the Lord has anointed Me (Matt.3:17, with the Divine formula of consecration, "This is My Son", for the office of Prophet; Matt.17:5 for the office o Priest; Ps. 2:7 and Heb.1:5, for the office of King) to preach good tidings to the oppressed; He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and an opening of the understanding (or, heart, instead of prison doors. refers to the opening of the vision) to them that are bound; (Christianity gives us true peace of mind and the truth sets us free from bondage.)
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord (or jubilee year [Lev.25:9,10]. We may render, "A year of good-pleasure for Yahaveh, But a day of vengeance for our God. Christ did not complete this verse, when He quoted this Scripture in Luke 4. He stopped and closed the book after the word "Lord". The acceptable year of the Lord came to pass as Jesus made salvation available. The day of vengeance is the beginning of the 2nd advent. What will happen on the day of vengeance? Let's continue with the duties of Jesus Christ.), {But] the day of vengeance of our God (cp. 59:17; 63:4. This is a notable example of how to rightly divide "the Word of truth", when we observe that the Messiah, in quoting this prophecy concerning Himself in Luke 4:18,19, "closed the book", and did not go on to quote further in v.20, because the former part of the prophecy referred to the then present time, and not to the future Dispensation of judgment. the acceptable year of the Lord came to pass as Jesus made salvation available. The Heb. accent separates these two clauses, indicated by "But", above. Note that the vengeance is assigned to a "day", in contrast with "year". The day of vengeance is the beginning of the 2nd advent); to comfort all that mourn; (see 3:26, and cp. Matt .5:4)
3 To set (as a permanent, irrevocable thing) to them that mourn in Zion, to give to them an ornament (or nuptial tiara) for ashes (as put on the head, as a sign of mourning [2 Sam. 13:19]), the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the heavy spirit; that they might be called trees of righteousness (see 60:21. Why does God use symbology? Because it makes it easier to understand. God planted trees, trees of righteousness. The elect are trees of righteousness. BUT, Satan, the tree of knowledge of good and evil, had a habit of planting trees also), the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified. (all is for Yahaveh's glory)

    b -4. Desolations. Raised up.

4 And they shall rebuild the deserted [cities], (cp. Amos 9:11,12. Acts 15:16)

they shall raise up the former desolations,

and they shall repair the desolate cities, (Desolation means places of silence. What kind of silence? The silence for hearing the Word of the Lord. This will be corrected in the millennium.)

the places of silence of many generations. (see 1:7)

5 And foreigners shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of an unknown people shall be your plowmen and your vine-dressers. (The elect will feed the flock with the Word of God.)

6 But you all shall be named the Priests of the Lord (see Ex. 19:6): men shall call you the Ministers of our God (ref. to the technical phrase, common in the Law. See Ex. 28:35. Num. 16:9. Deut. 10:8; 17:12, &c.): you all shall eat the riches of the nations, and in their glory shall you all boast yourselves. (See Rev. 20:6. The priest will be working to teach the Word of God in the millennium.)

61:7. Israel. Restoration.

w c 7-. Complete compensation.
    d -7-. Rejoicing.
   c -7-. Complete compensation.
    d -7. Rejoicing.

7 For your shame you all shall have double [honor]; (not as in 40:2. See note there)

and for reproach (or, disgrace) they shall rejoice in their portion:

therefore in their land they shall possess the double: (Double portions are the reward of the first fruits. Actually, the elect do not receive a double portion of the land. Their inheritance is God. He owns everything.)

everlasting joy shall be to them. (see 44:7)

8 For I the Lord love justice, I hate robbery for burnt offering (showing that the sacrificial system was in operation at the time when this prophecy was given); and I will make their recompense in truth (see 10:20), and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.(see 44:7. The everlasting covenant is the eternity. Never again will Satan be loosed. All will be made right at the end of the millennium. We have one King. The King of kings and Lord of Lords.)

9 And their seed shall be known among the nations, and their offspring among the peoples: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the Lord has blessed.

10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe (some codices read, "and with a robe") of righteousness, as the bridegroom adorns himself (with a turban such as worn by priests), and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the earth brings forth her bud, and as the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
