Exodus 22

1491 B.C.

1 - 15. Laws as to Property continued.
16 - 31. Laws as to Man; to persons.

These laws are based on common sense, and absolute in most cases, not like the law of precedence that is practiced in our court system today. The law today is set when a judge rules on a case and from there after all similar cases are handled in like manner. One case sets the rule for all other like cases that follow. God told Moses that this is the law, it the ruling is yea or nay, yes or no. The instruction are plain and simple and you follow the law. God's ways are always fair, tooth for tooth, and stripe for stripe. We have gotten away from this type of thinking, and set on our own imaginations. The law today is set up to make a certain group of people well off, feeding off the troubles of others: And their wealth that is gained, is protected by this law of precedent.

Exodus 22:1 If a man shall steal an ox or a sheep, and kill it or sell it, he shall restore five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep.

(So David judged, 2 Sam.12:6. If you steel a man's ox, his workhorse, and your caught, God states that it will cost you five of your own oxen. The point here is that it doesn't pay to be greedy, you pay a greater price for messing over a man's livelihood, than with his religion.)

2 If a thief be found breaking in and be smitten so that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him.

(The term "breaking up", is an Hebrew idiom meaning "caught in the act of his theft". If a man is a thief and is breaking into your house and the thief is killed in the act; the one killing the thief is not responsible for the death of the thief. That death is not considered a murder, but self defense. However today in our land, our courts like to coddle the thief, and if you kill the thief, you will be tied in most courts in our land. God's law does not protect the thief, and the death of the thief caught in the act is not considered murder.)

{3 If the sun be risen upon him,

(Therefore killed after he had got away, and in cold blood.)

there shall be blood shed for him}; for he should make full restitution. If he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

(The thief doesn't sit around in some jail reading a book, playing games, and visiting all day, he goes out and works to make money all day until the full restitution has been satisfied.)

4 If the theft be certainly found in his hand alive, whether it be ox or ass or sheep, he shall restore double.

(If the thief has already sold or butchered the animal, the price is different than if the animal is still alive when the thief is caught. If the animal is still alive, then you restore the animal, and give double what was taken in the theft.)

5 If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast and shall feed in another man's field, of the best of his own field and of the best of his own vineyard shall he make restitution.

(This law is directed to the man that opens the other man's gate and allows his animals in to feed in the neighbor's pasture. The fence was not torn down, or he didn't break into the field, but it was an intentional act of opening the gate and driving your cows into the neighbors corn field. That neighbor then has the right to go into your field and take the best of your crops at harvest time, to make restitution for the destruction to that neighbor's field. When your animals have taken his crop away for that year, then you lose your crop for that year to the neighbor when it happens just once. This is civil law; laws that govern relationships of people to their neighbors, and we are responsible to obey the civil laws of the land to where we reside.

These are segments of examples that we are to follow, the ten commandments broken down into the different sectors that affect our lives individually. The point is that you can not judge any one case or set of circumstances, by another event, as in the law of Precedent; for God is pointing out that each case must be judged by taking all of God's law, as it applies to that one case. Today the court system fools around with all kinds of games, trying to come up with another case that fits the pattern to this case, and they never do get to the nay and yea (the no and yes) of the case. Of course the purpose of this form of law, is to make somebody [lawyers] money, by the time that is spent playing their game. The law of Precedence is not according to God's law, but by what some man rules in his court, right or wrong. We live under this form of law, and God expects us to obey the law of the land we reside in. The apostle Paul made this very clear in Romans 13. This is the message from God as to how He expects us to get along while living in this flesh body in getting along with not only our brethren, but within our communities, in obedience to the law. These then are our civil relationships.

Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

"Power" as spoken of here is government, so when you resist the government authority you are resisting the ordinance that God put into that government. As long as we follow the rules or civil laws of the system that is now forming, we are granted the rights of that system. You will even be allowed take the advantage, with God's blessings, of what ever system of government you find yourself in.

Romans 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

Paul is saying that the policeman or any governmental official is a minister of God to you, for your own good. They are servants of the people for the people's protection. When some outside force or person is a threat to your family or community, then the government and it's officials have an obligation to protect you, and execute wrath on them that bring evil to the community. This is God's law, and if you do something evil and against the law, then you are subject to the punishment of that act you did, by the laws of that land.

Romans 13:4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: For he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 5 Therefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

This is just common sense, when you do what is right by the law, you avoid the wrath that the breaking of the law brings. When you train your conscience as to what is right and wrong by God's law, then your conscience is your guide. When there are no standards in place by sound Scriptural training, then the law of the land becomes the standard for your conscience as to what is right or wrong.

Romans 13:6 For this cause, pay you tribute also for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.

This spells out why we pay tribute or taxes. When you pay taxes to those ministers of government because they are the ones that attend continually to providing protection and services for you and those citizens of the land. This applies to both the local and national level. We expect more out of our government today, and that is why we are obligation ourselves to pay more for our taxes. If you live under a democratic form of government, then each voter must be educated to the point of selecting by his or her vote the best person to fill that position in the government. That is the only way that a democracy will work. If you live under a communistic form of government, then committees at the top do all the thinking, and and people respond. God expects us to think and train ourselves to where our conscience is in accordance with His laws. You pay taxes to keep sanity in the community, and maintain the rights and order in the neighborhood, and that takes money.

Romans 13:7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

When Jesus was asked by the Pharisee if they should pay tribute to Caesar or not, He responded to them in Matthew 22:21 "Then saith he unto them, "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's." It is time that we do as Jesus commanded us to do, Pay the taxes where and when they are due.

Our constitution was written from this law, and Christ did not do away with any part of this law, but only those ordinances that dealt with blood sacrifices of animals for sin. Jesus Christ became the Lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world of those that would believe and by faith seek repentance in the name of Jesus. When you same, "In Jesus name" you are stating that you believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and that He lived the perfect life, and that Jesus' death on the cross, and shed blood was for the remission of sin, your sin, and that you in repentance seek to be placed under that shed blood of Christ. Jesus came to fulfill the "volume of the book" all the promises that God made to you and me in the entire Bible, for one and all times.

That law that we are studying is not done away with, for the ten commandments will always be current and active as long as we live in this earth age of flesh man. We still must love God and put God ahead of all other things and people in our lives, and you still must not commit murder, steal, and respect your neighbor, and his property. No, the law is not done away with, for the law is what keeps the order to any society, no matter what kind of government you live in or are under. In the time of Moses the blood ritual was your way of making things right with God, whereas now we have the blood of Christ that we can seek to come under through repentance, and we can go to our heavenly Father in Jesus' name and ask for help and forgiveness.)

6 If fire break out and catch in thorns, so that the stacks of corn or the standing corn or the field be consumed therewith, he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.

(The results of this law is the same as the man whose wild cattle broke down the neighbor's fense and destroyed his crops, however here it was the fire that broke out and burnt the neighbor's field. If you are the cause that started the fire for what ever reason, the law expects that you make restitution for the damage that you have caused. Of course that restitution is either by payment of money, or with your crops at harvest time.)

7 If a man shall deliver unto his neighbor money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house, if the thief be found, let him pay double.

8 If the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall be brought unto the judges to see whether he has put his hand unto his neighbor's goods.

(The judge will look at the man's Character, reputation, and past actions to see if he could be trusted. The judge will look at whether there is any evidence that could be used against this man.)

9 For all manner of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing which another challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges;

(Heb. ha-’elohim = "gods". See 21:6. Or, before God, the judges representing Him, and acting in His stead, according to Rom.13:1-6. See this usage, with the article, 21:6; 22:8,28. See 15-19: and cp. Ps. 82:1,6. John 34,35.)

and whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbor.

(God expects each of us to protect our homes and wealth, and to make sure that all is protected and safe. If another person come to you and asks you to hold something for him and make it secure, then that item of money or stuff is to be protected just as if it is part of your property. We as a Christians are to be completely in charge of our homes and families, no matter where you live. Then if you become so negligent with your property, that the wealth trusted to you is lost or stolen, it needs to be checked into why his goods were taken and not yours. Are you the master of our home, and do you have complete control over it? That is the point that is looked at through this verse; are you a trust worthy individual. God is telling you that if something is missing from your home that was your responsibility to keep save. Then it becomes time for the judge to take a look at why it came up missing. When you live way out away from town, it becomes your duty to protect your home and family, for you become the first line of defense for your own family and property.

So what this law is saying is that if you accepted the responsibility of your neighbor's good, it is only right that you suffer the loss when it comes up missing. It is a good lesson for each of us. The one that allowed the theft to happen may wise up to take better care of his things. This is talking about the family unit itself protecting itself from outside intruders.)

10 If a man deliver unto his neighbor an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast to keep, and it die or be hurt or driven away, no man seeing it,

11 Then shall an oath of the LORD be between them both that he hath not put his hand unto his neighbor's goods; and the owner of it shall accept thereof, and he shall not make it good.

(The neighbor's are to be brought together and an agreement be worked out between the two of them that night, that the owner agrees to and accepts. An understanding that the neighbor did not steel or misuse the goods that were left to him for safe keeping. The neighbor is to swear an oath to the owner that that he did not have a part in the loss of the goods, and then it shall be over and done with at that moment.)

12 And if it be stolen from him, he shall make restitution unto the owner thereof.

13 If it be torn in pieces, then let him bring it (one of the pieces) for witness, and he shall not make good that which was torn.

14 And if a man borrow aught from his neighbor, and it become hurt or die, the owner thereof being not with it, he shall surely make it good.

15 But if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good; if it be a hired thing, it came for his hire.

(The hire itself is part of the use of the tool, and it is his responsibility to make sure that his own tools are in good working order and safe, while doing his job on your property. Just more good common sense.

We are now moving into a different part of the law, that dealing with marriage, the family, and the community.)

16 And if a man entice a maid who is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.

17 If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

(50 shekels, about $130. Deut. 22:29. If the man forced himself on this virgin for any reason, and is found out, that man can not use the reasons granted by and in Moses' law to put this woman away by divorce. She become his wife as long as the two are in their flesh bodies. This is the law of God. However the law of the land today does not respect this law, and we find that this law is not respected in our land today.)

18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

(Or spiritualist. Medium, to or from, from root to mutter, as to some demon. Cp. Lev. 19:26,31; 20:27. Deut. 18:9-14. This witch includes both men and women that deal with sorcery, or the demonic spiritual world of Satan. Most of the witches that parade around to sell their lies today, do not fit in this category. The witch at this time was one that would have contact with a devils, fallen angels. Deuteronomy 18:14 describes it as "This enchantment that shows the reality of intercourse with evil spirits (fallen angels) and demons." That is what happened in Genesis six to where the fallen angels [Nephilim], "sons of God" came down to marry the daughters of men, and to have "children" by them. "Children", or Rephiam or Giber were born to them, and by the time of Noah, the entire population was infiltrated with this polluted blood of the fallen angels that was not of flesh man. Remember it was through Noah that the Christ would be born into the world in the flesh, and the great sin was polluting that blood line. It was not any different in Moses' day, than it was in Noah's day. This was the cause of the flood of Noah's day.

Genesis 6:9 And these are THE GENERATIONS OF NOAH: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God."

"Generations" as given here, in the Hebrew is "Toledoth", or "family history". The Word "perfect" used here in the Hebrew text is "tamim", which means "without blemish as to breed or pedigree." Noah's family did not marry into those blood lines that contaminated the other Adamic families with these polluted strains from the fallen angels. This was important, because it would be through this Adamic blood line of Noah that would survive the flood that Jesus Christ, the Son of God would come into this world. Jude 6 tells us "And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, He hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day." That "great day" is given in Revelation 12:9, when Satan and his army of fallen angels will be kicked out of the heavenlies, and on to this earth to deceive the people living at this time of the sixth trumpet. This day is not far off now.

This is why this law dealing with witches, or those that would marry into the "fallen angel" line is so important. We are approaching the day when Satan and all of his fallen angels are coming right to this earth, when Michael boots them out of heaven at the sixth trump. Marriage into these families of Satan would cause those that do it into following Satan for that short time he will be here on earth. The fallen spirits have refuse to be born through the womb of women, yet they are drawn to them. This is a perversion that will take place again, and Moses is warning us to be aware of it.

Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

This address Satan in many of his roles here on earth, the dragon, the old serpent, the Devil and Satan. He is coming to this earth, and bringing all of his fallen angels, those Nephilims with him. Are you going to chase after them when they arrive. Get how this applies to our day?

The wizard and the witch are not to live, by this law of God. Also entering into this category are sorcerers; which in the Greek is where we get Pharmacy, or drugs. In Strong's Greek dictionary it is #5331; "Pharmakoia; pharmacy, magic, witchcraft, sorcery." Drug dealers that are not in accordance with the laws of the land are not to live. A person that peddles drugs that causes people to lose their life, God is telling us that they are not to live. Get rid of them out of the community. However if she is a non Hebrew, and she came in as a witch, she is not to be killed, but commanded to leave. But if she is a Hebrew woman, it is a totally different set of circumstances. You are to warn her to stop those actions that she is doing, and after the warning, then if she continues, she dies.

Note that this is not according to civil law here in America, so naturally it is not followed, but in many of the other nations in the world it is followed. However they are murderers of the flesh by the actions that they have done through drug sales.)

19 Whosoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death.

20 He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed.

(We serve a jealous God, and this law is not enforced in our land today. People are given the right to serve any god they please, and bow down to any god that they can imagine in their mind. However God is letting it be know to the children of Israel exactly what He thinks of those that would sacrifice to any god. Remember that God will be the judge of each soul, and those that are not right at the great white throne judgment day, will be utterly destroyed. The time is coming very shortly when all souls will be judged by this law, and it will be used to determine the souls that shall enter into the eternity with our Lord, and those that shall walk into hell fire with Satan. If you think that you can worship Satan, any beast or what every god you create for yourself, that action of yours will be used against you to condemn your soul to hell. The point is; Don't do it!)

21 Thou shalt neither vex a stranger nor oppress him, for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

(God looks at how we treat the strangers in our midst. He is telling the children of Israel that He sent them down into Egypt for four hundred years, to be strangers in a land that was not yours. You know what it was like to be miss treated, and remember that when strangers are in your midst. Treat them as you would have liked the Egyptians to treat you. God is telling the children of Israel; You know how it feels to be under the oppression of evil task-masters. No matter how much I elevate you to in the future, don't forget it.)

22 Ye shall not afflict any widow or fatherless child.

(Put for all kinds of helpless ones. God has chosen the widow and the fatherless child to be at the head of His protection list. Each of these are about the most helpless of all other classes of people. If you do afflict one of these, expect God to come down hard on you.)

23 If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto Me, I will surely hear their cry;

(God is not going to wait until judgment day to straighten you out and get even with the evil you have caused the widow or the orphan. If you afflict one of these without cause, God will correct you very quickly, so expect it.)

24 And My wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

(Remember back in verse Exodus 21:23-25; "And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe." You can safely say, "widow for widow, fatherless child for fatherless child." The sword of the Lord is His Word, and all He has to do is say the word, and your on your way home to the Father.)

25 If thou lend money to any of My people who are poor among thee, thou shalt not be to him as a usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury.

(It is alright to contract with a neighbor and charge him interest; However it is not alright to charge a brother interest. That is God's law, if you can't keep from charging him interest, then don't lend to him. You can charge your neighbor or a stranger interest though. Usury is the quickest path to bondage, more than any other form. Sure use your credit cards, but pay them up every month, or just don't use them.)

26 If thou at all take thy neighbor's raiment

(Clothing by day, and sole covering at night. Cp. 12:34. Deut. 24:12,13. Judg. 4:18. Amos 2:8.)

in pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him by the time the sun goeth down,

(This is telling you that if you allow a poor man to borrow from you, and you take his blanket for security, then you must give him back his raiment or night blanket before the coolness of the night sets on that man. That blanket is all that this man has to protect himself from the elements, and if you take that blanket he has no protection from the cool nights.)

27 For that is his only covering. It is his raiment for his skin. Wherein shall he sleep? And it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto Me, that I will hear, for I am gracious.

(According to the Masorrah, this is the middle of the 1209 verses of Exodus. Remember that widow and orphan, well this poor man that has given up his raiment to pledge is on that same protection list of our Lord. God will help those that at least try to better themselves.)

28 Thou shalt not revile the judges, nor curse the ruler of thy people.

(Cp. Ecc.10:20. Acts 23:5. 2 Pet. 2:10. Jude 8. God is telling you to obey all civil law, and love and respect the our Heavenly Father. The laws of our land are based on the laws of God's holy Word. Don't go against our heavenly Father or curse our country. Friend, if you don't vote, then stay quiet after the election. In our form of government the only way that it will work right is for people to cast an intelligent vote to select the best man or woman for the job.)

29 Thou shalt not delay to offer the first of thy ripe fruits

(= corn, wine, and oil.)

and of thy liquors. The firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto Me.

(On the 8th day. This verse is part of a blood ordinance, and it is done away with through the blood of Christ on the cross. Jesus was the only offering that was acceptable for one and all times.)

30 Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen and with thy sheep: seven days it shall be with his dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it to Me.

(God told us not to withhold our best for Him, for there would be a time coming when God will offer the best sacrifice that could be offered for sin. That time was when Jesus Christ, the Son of God went to the cross and died. He became the only perfect sacrifice for sin. This part of the law is done away with, because it was a blood ritual; a blood sacrifice.)

31 And ye shall be holy men unto Me; neither shall ye eat any flesh that is torn by beasts in the field: ye shall cast it to the dogs.

(There is no gender in this verse, for it applies to men and women alike. Right off the bat this throwing the flesh of this good animal that has been wounded, sounds like a waste. But without knowing what caused the tare in the flesh, the worst must be assumed for the protection of you and your family. So this verse is part of the health laws to protect you from a disease that would kill you. God knows how to protect his own in these flesh bodies, and these health laws are just plain common sense.)
